Sleep and autoimmune disease

In the past few years I’ve realized that it’s super important for me to focus on self care. Self care comes in many forms, but whatever you do…taking care of your mind, body and soul are paramount. Sleep is important to all three.
You may need soft and then firm or feet up and then down all in one nigh’s sleep.
As your joints deteriorate, your sleep needs will change. Heck, your sleep needs may change in one sleep session. You may need soft and then firm or feet up and then down all in one night’s sleep. There will be days when you will feel best with a firm mattress and days when your joints hurt so bad that you need a super soft mattress. There will be times when you need your head up (esp if you have acid reflux) and times when you’ll need your feet up (to reduce swelling). If you suffer from night sweats like I do, you may need to cool down and if your flare up includes shivers…you might just need to heat up a bit.
I broke down and went to a Sleep Number store…
I researched beds for almost a year. I kept running across The Sleep Number bed, but couldn’t fathom paying nearly $10,000 on a bed. After not finding a bed that could accommodate all of my needs, what did I do? I broke down and went to a Sleep Number store and tested every bed they had. Let’s just say…after about two hours of bed hopping…I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without one of their beds.
Leaving the store without a keep Number Bed was not an option.
Since at this point, leaving the store without purchasing a Sleep Number Bed was not an option- I decided to go all out. I deserved all the bells and whistles!! I made the decision to buy the split king for a few reasons, but mostly so that my frequently changing sleep positions wouldn’t affect my husband. We can both adjust our side of the bed separately. He sleeps at 100 most of the time and I’m 35- 65 on most days. He snores and I activate the snore feature that changes his position to stop the snoring. He claims I snore too, but I’ve never woke up in snore position so I’m just going to keep on claiming that I don’t. I have severe hot flashes, so I can hit the cooling button to cool my side down without freezing him with the overhead fan. I have acid reflux, so I usually sleep with my head elevated slightly, the hubby sleeps flat most days. When my joints in my legs and feet are swollen, I use the foot elevation option and when my neck joints are stiff, I elevate my head just slightly. Did I mention the preset tv and reading modes along with the favorite position button and the underbed ambiance lighting?
Needless to say, the sleep number bed is probably my favorite tool in my autoimmune tool box. It’s worth every penny. Get one…thank me later!!
There are cheaper options, so don’t get turned off by the the price I paid. Take a look here:

This is good to hear because I’m thinking about buying this brand of bed.
